Downloading The PSTInstall.exe full install 1. Left click one time on the Download link on our web page, www.dbsinfo.com. 2. On the Download page you will see the New Users or Full Install link, Left click on this link one time. 3. This will scroll you down to the PST Version 5 Full Install link, again left click one time. 4. Make sure that Save this program to disk is marked in the File Download window you are brought to and left click on OK. 5. Select the location you wish to download to in the Save As window and left click on Save. We suggest that you save it to your server's hard disk so that all users can use the same install file and you won't have to copy it from workstation to workstation or download it multiple times. 6. You will begin downloading the file and will be notified when the download is complete. The download time of the PSTV5.exe is roughly between 22-36 minutes depending on your connection speed. 7. Please download and save to disk the MDAC file as well if you haven't ever installed it. If you are installing PST for the first time, or upgrading PST from below 5.4a for the first time, you need to download and install this file as well. It will be named MDAC_TYP.EXE (until Microsoft changes it). 8. If you are not sure where exactly you downloaded your file to please refer to the section 'Locating PSTV5.exe'. IF you know the location of PSTInstall.exe then continue on with the section on installing the PSTV5.exe file. Locating PSTInstall.exe 1. Click on start and select Find > Files or Folders. 2. In the Named field type PSTInstall.exe. 3. In the Look In field pull down the drop down list box and select [C:] if you saved it to your local hard drive. If you have a partitioned hard drive it may very well be possible that you downloaded PST to another drive letter such as [D:] or [E:]. If you saved the file to your server's hard drive, use that drive letter to search. In any event run the search on each drive letter until the PSTInstall.exe file is located. 4. Click on Find Now and let Windows complete the search. (The search will be complete when the magnifying glass icon stops spinning.) 5. The window will expand to a white field below giving you a list of all files that were found matching the search criteria. 6. PSTInstall.exe, if downloaded correctly, will appear with the Modified field reflecting the most current date and time. Installing PST 1. Make sure that all applications are shut down on the system you are to install PST on. 2. If you have never installed MDAC, locate and install it first. MDAC is the Microsoft Data Access Components package. It contains several files that PST (and many other modern programs) will need to run successfully. 3. Locate the file PSTInstall.exe on your hard drive and double click on it, this will begin the installation process. (If you are unsure where you downloaded PSTV5.exe to, then refer to the section above Locating PSTInstall.exe.) 4. You will be prompted with a Window stating "This will install Process Server's Toolbox. Do you wish to continue?" click on Yes. 5. Wait for the Install Shield Self-Extractor to extract the necessary files and the Setup to begin the Install Shield Wizard. 6. You will be brought to the Welcome form, if all applications are shut down click on Next to Continue 7. You will then be prompted to Choose Destination Location. Click on Next to select the default C:\DBS\PST. This is the standard location for all PST installations. Each workstation must have a local copy of PST installed. We'll tell PST where the shared data files are later. 8. Next you will be prompted to Select Program Folder, again click on Next selecting the Default of DBS Programs. 9. The Install Shield Wizard will decompress all the necessary files and install them on your system. Once complete Click on finish. Starting PST for the first time on a stand alone computer. 1. Click on the OK button to clear the initial PST Copyright screen. 2. You will now be prompted to Select the drive and folder for PST data files. The default directory for PST's data files is C:\DBS\PST. For a one computer install, just click on the Open button to select our default. 3. The next form that appears is labeled Select the drive and folder for PST import files. Just click on the open button again in the bottom right hand corner. 4. You will be prompted with a message "Data files do not exist. Do you wish to create new ones?", click on Yes. PST will create new data files which will have an extension of PS5. Installing PST on a network The default location for PST's data files is \DBS\PST. This directory structure is created on each station that you install a copy of PST on. However when running PST on a Network all copies of PST must share the same data. This data is stored on the server and you must direct each copy of PST to read it's data from the server. Assuming that you have installed PST successfully on the Server, started the program and created brand new datafiles you will need to point each copy of PST to the server's datafiles. Starting PST for the first time on each workstation. 1. You need to know how your Server's C-drive has been mapped. What do the workstations view the Servers C Drive as? It should be something along the lines of [D:] or [E:]. 2. Upon starting PST for the first time you will be brought to a window labeled Select the drive and folder for PST data files. 3. Pull down the drop down list box labeled Look In and select the Server's drive letter. 4. In the white field below you will be shown a list of the folders on the server's C-drive. Find the folder labeled DBS and double click on it. 5. Within the DBS folder you will see the PST folder. Double click on the PST folder. 6. You will now see a list of files with a PS5 extension. It doesn't matter which of them is highlighted, we're only concerned with getting the proper folder selected. Click on the Open button in the bottom right hand corner. 7. The next form that appears is labeled Select the drive and folder for PST import files. Just click on the Open button again in the bottom right hand corner. 8. PST will then load the data from the server each time you start the program. If for any reason you run into any problems such as an error message saying, "Data files do not exist.
